Richard The Third’ Dragonfly Slip EP in the Dope Store

image

Richard The Third is a force in the local electronic music scene, producing and DJ’ing as Richard The Third, Biscope or with Spoek Mathambo and Mshini Wam. He’s fresh off mixing the second edition of Red Bull Studio Sessions, and now we’re dropping the EP made by his own hands - Dragonfly Slip.

The EP has four tracks of deep and meaningful Dubstep, featuring internationally acclaimed vocalist Zaki Ibrahim, who is currently on tour with K’naan; and a collaboration with soulful South African singer Black Porcelain. Dragonfly Slip includes two remixes, one by Dank, hero of the Cape Town glitch scene and one half of Sedge Warbler; and another by Oltak, whose talent was discovered at the Red Bull Studios in Cape Town.

7ft Soundsystem - The Dopeness of Digital Dub

image

7ft Soundsystem - God Shuffles His Beat‘ is up in our Online Dope Store! The album is a head brew of rollin bass, skanking rhythms and sci-fi sounds, featuring collaborations with a host of local vocalists, including Zolani Mahola of South African super group, “Freshly Ground”.

They call themselves “[A] Digital Dub music duo with an insatiable passion for Jamican Roots music.” We say, if it’s inspiration you want, Jamaica’s not a bad place to start looking. You can take a listen to some of the tracks on the product page in our African Dope Online Store.

The Dank Has Landed

image

The latest addition to our shop is by the Cape Town Glitch phenomenon known as ’Dank‘. His (official) debut album, ’Cooking The Books‘ is one that we’ve been loving for some time now, and it’s our pleasure to now stock this sample-laden, glitch hopping delight of an album in our Online Dope Shop.

You might have got a taste of the Dankness on the Mix n Blend album, where he features prominently. And if you haven’t, buy ‘Cooking The Books’ it in the next two weeks, and you’ll get the Mix n Blend - Look Mom No Hands Remixes EP free!!

Here’s some info on this dude Dank: He’s a DJ/Producer that’s been doing his thing out of Cape Town for about 6 years now, and doing it damn well. He lists his interests as: Vintage Analog Synths and Keyboards, DJ’ing and Fish.

In his own words, he explains the album as being: “A mix of genres which glides across the spectrum from new school swing to head-bob, hip-hop stuff with squelchy old analogue bass, to down tempo eclectic stuff”. Right now, he’s killing it with his current project called Sedge Warbler, a duo consisting of himself and Disco Israel (P.H.Fat).

Now get in there, and get yourself some Dankaliciousness from the Dope Shop!!.
